Phoenix, Arizona – Ngày 26 & 27 tháng 4 năm 2025 — Cộng Đồng Người Việt tại Arizona đã cùng nhau quy tụ trong không khí trang nghiêm để tưởng niệm 50 năm ngày Quốc Hận — là một dấu mốc lịch sử đau thương, đánh dấu sự kết thúc của cuộc chiến Việt Nam và mở ra hành trình đầy gian nan thử thách cho hàng triệu người Việt vượt biên tìm tự do.
Vào tối thứ Bảy, ngày 26 tháng 4, tại Công Viên Tưởng Niệm Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza ở trung tâm thành phố Phoenix, Lễ Thắp Nến Tưởng Niệm đã được tổ chức trang trọng nhằm vinh danh các anh hùng đã hy sinh vì lý tưởng tự do và dân chủ cho Việt Nam Cộng Hòa. Buổi lễ tưởng niệm với bàn thờ và di ảnh của năm vị tướng tuẫn tiết, các chiến sĩ đồng minh, và hàng trăm ngàn đồng bào đã bỏ mình trên biển cả trong hành trình vượt biên tìm đườing tự do.
Buổi lễ quy tụ đông đảo lãnh đạo cộng đồng người Việt, cựu quân nhân Việt Nam Cộng Hòa và Hoa Kỳ, cùng những người yêu chuộng tự do. Dưới ánh nến lung linh, cộng đồng đã cùng nhau cúi đầu tưởng niệm và cầu nguyện, giữ vững lời hứa không quên quá khứ và tiếp tục bảo tồn di sản của những người đã nằm xuống.
Sáng hôm sau, Chủ Nhật, ngày 27 tháng 4, cũng tại địa điểm này, Cộng Đồng Người Việt Arizona đã long trọng tổ chức Lễ Tưởng Niệm 50 Năm Ngày Quốc Hận 30/4. Dù đã nửa thế kỷ trôi qua, ký ức đau buồn và tinh thần kiên cường vẫn luôn hiện hữu trong tâm khảm của người Việt tị nạn khắp nơi.
Một bài lời phát biểu cảm tưởng đã cùng nhau ôn lại chặng đường lịch sử – từ chiến tranh, mất nước, lưu vong – cho đến khi tái thiết cuộc sống nơi quê hương mới. Họ nhấn mạnh những đóng góp to lớn của người Mỹ gốc Việt trong 50 năm qua cho đất nước Hoa Kỳ, từ quân sự, nghề nghiệp, thương mại, cho đến hoạt động cộng đồng và gìn giữ văn hóa dân tộc.
Giống như chim phượng hoàng, dân tộc Việt Nam đã bay lên từ đóng tro tàn sau cuộc chiến và chọn Hoa Kỳ là quê hương thứ hai nơi thế hệ nối tiếp đã làm nên lịch sử với những thành công trong mọi lãnh vực. Chúng ta đã thực hiện theo thông điệp đầy ý nghĩa từ nữ hoàng talkshwo Oprah Winfrey: “Hãy biến vết thương thành trí tuệ.”
Lễ tưởng niệm thường niên này không chỉ ghi nhớ một chương lịch sử đau thương, mà còn là dịp để tôn vinh sức mạnh, lòng kiên cường và tinh thần yêu nước của người Mỹ gốc Việt – những con người luôn hướng về quá khứ nhưng không ngừng đóng góp cho tương lai với niềm tự hào và lý tưởng cao đẹp.
Phoenix, AZ – April 27, 2025 — The Vietnamese Community of Arizona gathered in solemn unity over the weekend to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Fall of Saigon — a pivotal moment in Vietnamese history that marked the end of the Vietnam War and the beginning of a long and painful journey for many refugees in search of freedom.
On Saturday evening, April 26, at the Wesley Bolin Memorial Plaza in downtown Phoenix, a Candlelight Vigil was held to honor the fallen heroes who laid down their lives to protect the ideals of freedom and democracy for the Republic of Vietnam. Attendees paid tribute to the memory of five South Vietnamese generals, as well as allied soldiers and countless civilians who perished at sea while fleeing Communist rule after April 30, 1975.
The vigil brought together leaders of the Vietnamese American community, Vietnam veterans, and supporters of freedom and democracy, all sharing a collective moment of reflection and prayer. Under flickering candlelight, the community stood united to remember the past and renew their commitment to preserving the legacy of those who sacrificed everything for liberty.
The following morning, Sunday, April 27, also at Wesley Bolin Plaza, the Vietnamese Community of Arizona hosted the official 50 Years of the Fall of Saigon Commemoration Ceremony. Though five decades have passed, the pain and resilience of that historic moment remain etched in the hearts of Vietnamese Americans.
Speakers reflected on the community’s journey — from war and displacement to rebuilding lives in a new homeland. In their speeches, they recognized the significant contributions Vietnamese Americans have made to the United States over the past 50 years, from military service to professional achievements, and civic engagement to cultural preservation.
As one community leader shared, “Like the legendary phoenix, our people have risen from the ashes.” The ceremony closed with a heartfelt reminder of the power of resilience, embodied in the words of Oprah Winfrey: “Turn your wounds into wisdom.”
This annual event not only remembers a painful chapter in history but also celebrates the strength, perseverance, and patriotism of the Vietnamese American people. It is a testament to a community that honors its past while continuing to shape the future with pride and purpose.
