DRIVE Starring Ryan Gosling, Carey Mulligan and Bryan Cranston, Drive is a gritty thriller filled with engaging characters and a suspenseful story. Directed by Nicolas Winding Refn, Drive echos back to an era of cinema that was defined by memorable characters and the interactions between them. Gosling's performance of a character known only by "Driver" is deeply conflicted yet lovable, which is something very hard to achieve in film. All of the characters, despite their egos and often despicable motives have a human element to them that makes them both believable and likable. Before you watch Drive, get rid of any preconceived notions of how you think the film will be. The car chases are spectacular, but not large or filled with explosions. The action and violence is incredibly visceral but not overbearing or gratuitous. The romance is tender and sweet without being cliche or unrealistic. Drive is modern filmmaking at it's finest and I urge it's prompt viewing. LION KING 3D After 17 years after its first release, Disney has brought back to theaters a beloved animated masterpiece, The Lion King, but this time, in full-fledged 3D. After viewing this version of an old-time classic, I realized how perfect the filmmaking had been from the start. The Lion King was designed with beautiful cinematography of sweeping jungle landscapes and a carnival of colors and sights--and seeing all of this once again on the massive cinema screens with the 3D technology truly highlighted the complex artwork and layers that were designed into the final picture. This film is targeted for a young audience, but the mastery of the storytelling, soundtrack, characters, and imagery is a spectacle for eye of all ages to admire and enjoy. Watching this movie again ten years later, I have to say, I understood more the humor within the dialogue and can much more appreciate this piece of art for its timeless entertainment. Lion King 3D is out in theaters for a only a limited amount of time--so don't miss your chance to experience this familiar story in a way that you never had before.
