UGLY SWEATER [Uglysweaters] The ugly holiday sweater you owned when you were a child was embarrassing and itchy. Today, it’s still embarrassing and itchy, but it’s also a beloved holiday cultural phenomenon, in the form of an Ugly Holiday Sweater Party. The actual mass-market ugly sweater reached its peak popularity sometime in the 1980s, according to the Wall Street Journal. That’s when people wore the sweaters in earnest, supposedly. With the popularity of “hipsters” and vintage clothing, ugly sweaters can no longer be defined as ugly. Trends change, styles evolves, and hipsters keep bringing old school back to the table. So whether you’re heading to an Ugly Sweater Party or not, make sure you’re the most fashionable there even if the sweater is a Christmas one. At the end of the day, you’ll probably get the most compliments! WINTER ACCESSORIES [Accessories] It’s getting cold outside and it’s time to bundle up! So why not take this opportunity to show off a slew of stylish accessories? Scarves, hats, and gloves aren’t just functional in the cold weather – they’re also so fashionable! Whether you are looking for fun accessories to brighten up the drab winter months or you want something chic to really set your look apart, I’ve included some items that would be great for the holiday season. Stylish accessories can help revamp your winter wardrobe this season — especially if you’re getting bored of your classic coat. Accessories also make the perfect holiday gift — who wouldn’t LOVE a chic scarf? Mix up your style this season and try some of the new trends that have been hitting the streets. NEW YEAR [NewYear] You may not even know what you’re doing for New Year’s yet. If you’re someone with a lot of friends, you may have a lot of options to choose from–from a swanky cocktail party to a ski vacation to a crazy loft party in Brooklyn. Or maybe you want to stay home and avoid the drunk drivers. Whatever it is, I’ve assembled some cute outfit ideas for several occasions. RESOLUTION [Resolution] 1)    GOING INTO THE NEW YEAR I THINK WE COULD ALL INDULGE IN A LITTLE MORE COLOR. We tend to gravitate towards muted colors like grey, black or beige, but come 2014, immerse yourself in the idea of mixing colors and try color blocking. It is an instant mood changer and will keep you feeling confident.   2)    ACTUALLY WEAR YOUR CLOTHES! We all have closets packed full of options but we only wear a fraction of what we have. We wear 20% of our closet 80% of the time. We are all guilty of reaching for the same tried and tested look when we are dashing out the door. Take a few extra minutes to put something new together. I’m not a morning person so here’s my little trick. I take 5 minutes before I go to bed and put my outfit together. This gives me time to try something new on instead of feeling so rushed in the morning. I also get to sleep in a little bit longer and still look great!   3)    BRANCH OUT AND TRY AT LEAST ONE NEW TREND. You want to stay true to who you are when thinking about trying a new trend. Don’t dive into something you won’t feel comfortable wearing and keep in mind your proportions, you still want to dress for your body type.   4)    4) MIX IT UP AND WEAR MORE SKIRTS. We know there is nothing like the comfort of denim but with all the options out there a skirt is a must have. With the current trends you have anything from full length maxi skirts to short body con skirts so don’t be shy. You can wear this at any age and any shape.   5)    5) TRY A NEW LIP COLOR. Fashion is more than the clothes you wear. It’s everything from hairstyle, nails, and accessories to makeup. How you put everything together will really affect your entire look. Putting on a fun new lip color can be just as exciting as a new top!   6)    6) REARRANGE YOUR CLOSET. Sometimes you just need a fresh eye on something. Try reorganizing your wardrobe. It will help you gain a better understanding of what you have in there and you may find a few surprises you forgot about. I recommend organizing it by style. For example, separate your basics, blouses, outwear, etc. This way you can start looking at your wardrobe in outfits with layers rather than individual pieces. Don’t forget to be rid of a few things by donating to charity. Giving away clothes can be very therapeutic and will make room for new goodies!
